CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

9 January 2021 – Church services

We’ve taken the decision to stop holding in-person church services temporarily, until the Covid-19 transmission rate in London drops. There’s more info here.

15 October 2020

Following the Government’s decision to move London to Tier 2 restrictions, here’s our latest update:

Much of our work is unaffected by the change from Tier 1 to Tier 2, but it’s important to say that we’ve spoken to every project manager to ensure that all work continues to be conducted safely, and all projects that are still running in their physical form are doing so because they’ve passed our safety tests.

This means that we’re continuing with Hub Youth, with our Advice Centre appointments, and with Oasis Church Waterloo’s socially-distanced service on Sundays at 11am (you’ll need to sign up in advance for church – click here to do that). We’ll also continue to support our local school communities, and to run Waterloo Foodbank, providing emergency food to those most in need.

Also, we can still gather in big groups online! We’ll continue to run Singing for Wellbeing on Zoom on Tuesdays, the Global Gathering (our short, informal church service for all) on Facebook Live on Sundays at 11am, and more.

Keep an eye on our social media accounts – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – for any updates, and if you need support or you’d like to join in with anything above, please feel free to get in touch, by email or by calling 020 7921 4205.

March 2020

In light of the most recent Government guidance, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel activity at many of our regular community projects. However, we realise that in a time where things are uncertain and we need to be physically distant from each other, this is exactly the time where we need community, where we need to connect with people and find some hope, some chink of light in unsettling times.

So we’re not going away; we think that instead of social distancing we should be practising physical distancing – we’ll be staying in touch via social media, WhatsApp (including a new group sharing church-specific info – join by going to oasiswaterloo.org/community) and soon we’re going to launch some online initiatives offering a range of practical ways in which we can continue to stay in touch, keep healthy, and look after our wellbeing.

We’ll continue to run some essential services, supporting our school communities, and providing emergency food where it’s needed.

We’re also changing the way our church services will run; we won’t be physically meeting together on Sundays for a while, but we will be gathering together virtually on Facebook Live (facebook.com/oasiswaterloo) at 11am on Sundays for Oasis Church Waterloo’s Global Gathering! We’ll be offering time to breathe, space to reflect, maybe some poetry, music, and a short story of hope. Our Senior Minister, Steve Chalke, has made a short video explaining this – see below.

So, whether you’re a church regular or you’ve never darkened the door, whether you live in Waterloo (London, UK) or Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), whether you’re gay, straight, male, female, old, young… whoever you are, we’d love you to join us, at 11am this Sunday, and every Sunday until we return to business as usual.
