At Hub Athletic we use football to engage young people, developing their football and team-working skills on the pitch, and supporting them to make positive life choices off it. Hub Athletic started life when a member of our community simply took a football onto the local London estates and began kicking a ball around with young people who were vulnerable to the risks presented by gang activity and youth crime.
Hub Athletic now works with 100 young people each week across a number of different project areas. Our Academy works with 11–14 year-olds and takes place on a Friday evening. and we also run an under-15s team which trains on Tuesday evenings and plays in a youth league on Saturday mornings. Hub Athletic are also closely involved with both of our local schools; Oasis Academy Johanna and Oasis Academy South Bank, delivering coaching and one-to-one mentoring.
We use football to develop self-awareness, leadership skills and to build long-term relationships that support young people throughout their teens through the difficult transitions into adult life. Our vision is to support positive life choices for each of our young people at every stage of their journey, and to build an open, inclusive community by building relationships and breaking down barriers here in Waterloo.
We are always looking for volunteers to join our team, if you are interested or know someone that might be please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Hub Athletic head coach David Nyarku: firstname.lastname@example.org
